The only island municipality in Batangas, Tingloy holds a secret — the pristine, sparkling type. Its fish-shaped main island called Maricaban appears to be hopping from Balayan to Batangas Bay. Masasa Beach is the fish’s belly, a curl of powdery paradise, which is barely disturbed for two reasons: most people do not know it exists, and those who do go only as far as Sombrero Island. There’s hardly any man-made structure in the area, so catch Masasa Beach while it’s still fresh and unspoiled.
Material: Sand and shingle beach
Nearest airport: Manila
How to get there: From Anilao, there are public boats that ferry passengers to Tingloy at 10:30am (P70). You may also rent a private boat so you could also drop by other islands (P2500, up to 10 passengers).
Where to stay: Camping is ideal, but if it isn’t your thing, try homestay. Mr. Florencio Mandanas has a room he rents out to tourists for P300 (P150/pax). You may contact him at +639053078654 / +639178414715
Don’t miss: Mag-asawang Bato, two gigantic rock formations, awaits you on top of a nearby hill. Go brave the slopes and get up close and personal with the hard rock couple.
If you have more time: Go on an island hopping tour around Maricaban Islands. Make a stop at Sombrero Island, popular among Anilao climbers and divers, and Sepoc Point. You may rent a private boat for this for P2500; it can carry up to 10 pax. You might also want to consider trekking to the summit of Mt. Gulugod Baboy in nearby Anilao, Mabini.
